Introduction
Early marriage is a prevalent issue in many parts of the world, including Kenema District in Sierra Leone. This research aims to investigate the causes, consequences, and potential interventions for early marriage in Kenema District. The study will provide valuable insights into the factors contributing to early marriage and the impact it has on individuals, families, and communities.
Research Questions
1. What are the main causes of early marriage in Kenema District?
2. What are the consequences of early marriage on individuals, families, and communities in Kenema District?
3. What interventions are currently in place to address early marriage in Kenema District?
4. What additional interventions could be implemented to reduce the prevalence of early marriage in Kenema District?
Methodology
This research will utilize a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative and qualitative data collection methods. The study will involve surveys, interviews, and focus group discussions with key stakeholders, including young girls, parents, community leaders, and local organizations working on gender issues.
Sampling
The study will use purposive sampling to select participants who have direct experience or knowledge of early marriage in Kenema District. The sample will include young girls who have been married early, parents who have married off their daughters at a young age, community leaders, and representatives from local organizations.
Data Collection
Quantitative data will be collected through surveys administered to a sample of young girls in Kenema District. The surveys will gather information on demographics, marital status, education level, and reasons for early marriage. Qualitative data will be collected through in-depth interviews and focus group discussions with key stakeholders.
Data Analysis
Quantitative data will be analyzed using statistical software to identify patterns and trends in the survey responses. Qualitative data will be analyzed thematically to identify key themes and insights from the interviews and focus group discussions.
