Why did the northern and southern part of Judah and Israel go into exile?

The northern kingdom of Israel went into exile in 722 BC when the Assyrians invaded and conquered the region, deporting many of the Israelites to other parts of the Assyrian Empire. This was due to the Israelites' disobedience to God and their worship of false gods.

The southern kingdom of Judah went into exile in 586 BC when the Babylonians invaded and destroyed Jerusalem, taking many of the inhabitants captive to Babylon. This was also a result of the people's disobedience to God, their idolatry, and their failure to follow the laws and commandments set forth in the Torah.
