Who was the man Yahaya Gusau?

Yahaya Gusau was a Nigerian military officer and politician who served as the first Military Administrator of Plateau State from 1976 to 1978. He was born in Gusau, Zamfara State, on January 20, 1943.

Gusau joined the Nigerian Army in 1963 and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1965. He served in various capacities during the Nigerian Civil War, including as a company commander and battalion commander. After the war, he held several staff and command positions in the Nigerian Army.

In 1976, Gusau was appointed as the Military Administrator of Plateau State. He served in this position until 1978, when he was redeployed to the Army Headquarters in Lagos. After retiring from the military in 1984, Gusau ventured into politics. He was elected Governor of Zamfara State in 1999 and served until 2007.

Yahaya Gusau died in London on May 20, 2022, at the age of 79. He is remembered as a distinguished military officer and a dedicated public servant.
