The main objective of the Kyoto Protocol is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in order to combat climate change and global warming. It sets binding targets for developed countries to reduce their emissions of six greenhouse gases - carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, hydrofluorocarbons, perfluorocarbons, and sulfur hexafluoride. The ultimate goal is to stabilize greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere at a level that will prevent dangerous human interference with the climate system.
