There are three levels of interventions in community nutrition:
1. Primary prevention: This level focuses on promoting healthy eating habits and preventing nutrition-related diseases before they occur. Examples of primary prevention interventions include nutrition education programs, community gardens, and policies that promote access to healthy foods.
2. Secondary prevention: This level involves identifying individuals or groups at risk for nutrition-related diseases and providing targeted interventions to prevent the development or progression of these diseases. Examples of secondary prevention interventions include screening programs for malnutrition, counseling for individuals with chronic diseases, and nutrition support for pregnant women.
3. Tertiary prevention: This level focuses on managing and treating nutrition-related diseases in individuals who have already been diagnosed. Examples of tertiary prevention interventions include medical nutrition therapy for individuals with diabetes or heart disease, nutrition counseling for cancer patients undergoing treatment, and nutrition support for individuals with eating disorders.
