Differentiate between short term and long term memory?

Short term memory refers to the temporary storage of information that lasts for a few seconds to a few minutes. It has a limited capacity and is easily forgotten if not rehearsed or transferred to long term memory. Long term memory, on the other hand, is the storage of information for an extended period of time, potentially for a lifetime. It has a much larger capacity and is more stable than short term memory. Information stored in long term memory can be recalled at a later time, even after a significant amount of time has passed.
