Main Body
The lungs are the central organs of the respiratory system, and they are responsible for the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide between the blood and the air. The lungs are located in the chest cavity, and they are divided into two lobes, the left and right lobes. Each lobe is further divided into smaller sections called bronchi, which in turn branch into even smaller passages called bronchioles. The bronchioles end in tiny air sacs called alveoli, which are where the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide takes place.
The airways are the passages that carry air to and from the lungs. The airways include the nose, mouth, pharynx, larynx, trachea, and bronchi. The nose and mouth are the main entry points for air, and they are lined with mucus membranes that help to trap dust, pollen, and other particles. The pharynx is the throat, and it is the passageway that connects the nose and mouth to the larynx. The larynx is the voice box, and it contains the vocal cords. The trachea is the windpipe, and it is the main airway that carries air to and from the lungs. The bronchi are the two main branches of the trachea, and they lead into the lungs.
The diaphragm is a large muscle that separates the chest cavity from the abdominal cavity. The diaphragm plays an important role in breathing by contracting and relaxing to draw air into and out of the lungs.
The respiratory system works in conjunction with the circulatory system to deliver oxygen to the body's cells and remove waste products. The circulatory system is made up of the heart, blood vessels, and blood. The heart pumps blood through the blood vessels, which carry the blood to the body's cells. The blood delivers oxygen to the cells, and it also removes waste products. The waste products are carried back to the heart, and then they are pumped out of the body through the lungs.
