Why is Romania not participating in Eurovision?

Romania was disqualified from participating in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2016 due to unpaid debts to the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). The country's public broadcaster, TVR, owed a significant amount of money to the EBU and was unable to pay off the debt in time to participate in the contest. As a result, Romania was forced to sit out of the competition in 2016 and has not returned since. It is unclear when or if Romania will be able to participate in Eurovision again in the future.
