Sir Ahmadu Bello, also known as the Sardauna of Sokoto, was a Nigerian statesman who served as the Premier of the Northern Region of Nigeria from 1954 until his assassination in 1966. He was a prominent leader in the struggle for Nigerian independence and played a key role in the formation of the Northern People's Congress (NPC), one of the major political parties in Nigeria at the time. Bello was highly respected for his leadership and advocacy for the interests of the Northern region of Nigeria.
