What is zagwe dynasty?

The Zagwe Dynasty was a medieval Ethiopian dynasty that ruled from the 10th to the 13th century. It is known for being one of the most important dynasties in Ethiopian history. The dynasty was established by King Mara Takla Haymanot, who overthrew the Aksumite Empire and established his capital in the city of Roha (later renamed Lalibela). The Zagwe Dynasty is particularly famous for its rock-hewn churches, including the famous churches of Lalibela, which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The dynasty was eventually overthrown by the Solomonic Dynasty, which claimed descent from the biblical King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba.
