The theology of the suffering of Christ, in my understanding, is the belief that Jesus willingly endured immense physical and emotional pain on the cross in order to redeem humanity from sin. This act of self-sacrifice is seen as a demonstration of God's love and mercy towards humanity.

One supported statement from the Bible that reflects this theology is found in the book of Isaiah, chapter 53, verse 5: "But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed."
