What is the historical background of Samia Suluhu Hassan?

Samia Suluhu Hassan was born on January 27, 1960, in Zanzibar, Tanzania. She hails from the Bunge la Wanawake, a women's political organization in Tanzania, and has a background in public administration.

Hassan began her political career in the 1990s when she served as a member of the Zanzibar House of Representatives. She held various ministerial positions in the Zanzibar government, including Minister of Youth Employment, Women, and Children Development, and Minister of Tourism, Trade, and Investment.

In 2015, Hassan was elected as the Vice-Chairperson of the Constituent Assembly tasked with drafting a new constitution for Tanzania. Later that year, she became the first female Vice President of Tanzania after running alongside President John Magufuli in the general elections.
