What is SPERE?

SPERE stands for "Social, Political, Economic, Religious, and Environmental" factors. It is a framework used in various fields, such as business, sociology, and political science, to analyze and understand the different factors that can influence a situation or decision. SPERE (Spectro-Polarimetric High-contrast Exoplanet REsearch) is a second-generation planet-finding instrument for the Very Large Telescope (VLT) of the European Southern Observatory (ESO). SPERE is designed to directly image exoplanets around nearby stars by using a coronagraph to block out the bright light from the star. SPERE also has a spectrograph that can measure the polarization of light from the exoplanet, which can provide information about the planet's atmosphere. SPERE is expected to begin operations in 2021.
