Ethereum is a decentralized platform that enables developers to build and deploy smart contracts and decentralized applications (dApps). It is a blockchain-based platform that allows for the creation and execution of smart contracts, which are self-executing contracts with the terms of the agreement directly written into code. Ethereum also has its own cryptocurrency called Ether (ETH), which is used to pay for transactions and computational services on the network. Ethereum was proposed by Vitalik Buterin in late 2013 and development began in early 2014, with the network going live on July 30, 2015.
