What are pragmatics ?

Pragmatics is a subfield of linguistics that studies how language is used in context and how meaning is influenced by factors such as the speaker's intentions, the listener's expectations, and the social and cultural context in which communication takes place. It focuses on the ways in which language users use language to achieve their goals, convey meaning, and interpret meaning in different situations. Pragmatics also examines phenomena such as implicature, speech acts, and conversational implicature.
