Blood clotting factors are proteins in the blood that work together to form a blood clot in response to an injury or damage to a blood vessel. There are 13 different clotting factors, numbered I through XIII, that are involved in the complex process of blood clot formation. These factors interact with each other in a cascade of reactions to ultimately form a stable blood clot that stops bleeding. Any abnormalities or deficiencies in these clotting factors can lead to excessive bleeding or clotting disorders.
