Signs of severe bleeding?

- Rapid heartbeat
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
- Weakness or fatigue
- Confusion or disorientation
- Pale or cold skin
- Rapid breathing
- Nausea or vomiting
- Severe pain at the site of the bleeding
- Blood pooling under the skin
- Blood spurting or gushing from the wound

Signs and Symptoms

- Heavy blood flow: Soaking through pads or tampons in less than an hour
- Large blood clots: Passing clots larger than a golf ball
- Headaches, dizziness, or lightheadedness: Signs of anemia due to blood loss
- Rapid heart rate: Compensating for blood loss
- Pale skin, cold hands or feet: Vasoconstriction to preserve core body temperature
- Shortness of breath: Insufficient oxygen delivery
- Anxiety, confusion, or fatigue: Effects of blood loss on brain function
- Loss of consciousness: Severe anemia or blood loss

Other Severe Bleeding Indications

- Bleeding that does not stop after direct pressure for 10 minutes
- Bleeding from a deep or open wound
- Bleeding from the nose or mouth that does not subside after 30 minutes
- Vomiting or coughing up blood
- Blood in urine or stool
- Vaginal bleeding that is unusually heavy or lasts for more than 7 days
- Headache with nausea and vomiting (possible ruptured aneurysm)
