Today, I want to talk to you about the importance of making vows to God. In the Bible, we see many examples of people making vows to God and the significance of keeping those vows.
In the book of Numbers, we read about the importance of fulfilling vows made to the Lord. Numbers 30:2 says, "If a man makes a vow to the Lord, or takes an oath to bind himself with a binding obligation, he shall not violate his word; he shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth."
When we make a vow to God, we are making a promise to Him. Just as we expect others to keep their promises to us, God expects us to keep our promises to Him. Ecclesiastes 5:4-5 says, "When you make a vow to God, do not delay to fulfill it. He has no pleasure in fools; fulfill your vow. It is better not to vow than to make a vow and not fulfill it."
Making vows to God is a serious matter. We should not make vows lightly or without careful consideration. In the book of Deuteronomy, we are reminded of the importance of keeping our vows to the Lord. Deuteronomy 23:21 says, "If you make a vow to the Lord your God, you shall not delay fulfilling it, for the Lord your God will surely require it of you, and you will be guilty of sin."
When we make a vow to God, we are committing ourselves to Him and His will. We are declaring our faithfulness and obedience to Him. Psalm 76:11 says, "Make your vows to the Lord your God and perform them; let all around him bring gifts to him who is to be feared."
So, let us be mindful of the vows we make to God and strive to fulfill them with sincerity and obedience. Let us remember that God takes our vows seriously and expects us to keep our word. Let us be people of integrity and honor, keeping our promises to the Lord. Amen.
