The default page setup orientation for slides in PowerPoint is landscape. This means that the slides are wider than they are tall. However, you can easily change the orientation to portrait if you prefer by going to the Design tab, clicking on Slide Size, and selecting either Standard (4:3) or Widescreen (16:9) depending on your preference.
