Heading Levels
- Level 1 Heading: Centered, bold, Title Case
- Level 2 Heading: Left-aligned, bold italics, Title Case
- Level 3 Heading: Left-aligned, bold italics, lowercase with sentence case
Emphasized Text
- Italics: Used for titles of works, foreign words or phrases, and technical terms being defined
- Bold: Used sparingly for emphasis (e.g., variables in equations)
Lists
- Bulleted List: Use bullets (•) for lists with 10 or fewer items.
- Numbered List: Use Arabic numerals (1., 2., 3.) for lists with more than 10 items.
Block Quotes
- Indent: Block quotes of 40 words or more with 10 spaces or 5 tabs.
- Double Space: Double-space block quotes within the text.
Parenthetical Citations
- In-Text: Include the author's last name and year of publication within parentheses (e.g., Brown, 2023).
- End of Paragraph: Combine multiple citations by separating authors with semicolons and ordering by year (e.g., Johnson, 2021; Smith, 2022).
Numbered References
- References Page: Create a separate "References" page at the end of the document.
- Numeric Order: List references in the order they appear in the text.
- Hanging Indent: Indent all lines after the first by 0.5 inches.
Capitalization
- Title Case: Capitalize all major words in titles (except for: a, an, the, in, or, and, but, for).
- Sentence Case: Capitalize the first word of sentences and proper nouns.
Font and Margins
- Font: Times New Roman, 12 point
- Margins: 1-inch margins on all sides
- Page Numbers: Include page numbers in the header, right-aligned
