How did Birbal justify his answer?

Birbal justified his answer by explaining that the man who had borrowed the money was not the real father of the child. He pointed out that the man had borrowed the money before the child was born, so technically the child did not owe anything to the lender. Therefore, the lender had no right to claim the money from the child. Birbal's logic was based on the fact that a child cannot be held responsible for the debts of their parents.

In another story, Akbar asks Birbal, "What is the most precious thing in the world?" Birbal replies, "Water." Akbar is again surprised and asks Birbal to explain. Birbal says, "Water is the most precious thing in the world because it is essential for life. Without water, we cannot survive."
