Title: Movement for Speed, Space, and Direction Using Apparatus
Grade Level: Grade Two
Objective: Students will be able to demonstrate movement for speed, space, and direction using various apparatus such as hoops, cones, and balance beams.
Materials:
- Hoops
- Cones
- Balance beams
- Music player
- Stopwatch
Warm-Up (5 minutes):
1. Start by having students jog in place to get their heart rates up.
2. Have students perform dynamic stretches such as arm circles, leg swings, and torso twists.
Introduction (5 minutes):
1. Explain to students that today they will be working on movement for speed, space, and direction using different apparatus.
2. Show students the hoops, cones, and balance beams that they will be using.
Main Activity (20 minutes):
1. Divide students into small groups and assign each group a different apparatus (hoops, cones, or balance beams).
2. Demonstrate different movements that can be done with each apparatus, such as jumping through hoops, weaving in and out of cones, and balancing on the balance beam.
3. Have students practice these movements in their groups, focusing on speed, space, and direction.
4. Play music to add an element of fun and encourage students to move quickly and with purpose.
5. Use a stopwatch to time each group as they complete a set course with their apparatus.
Cool Down (5 minutes):
1. Have students walk around the room to bring their heart rates down.
2. Lead students through static stretches such as toe touches, quad stretches, and shoulder stretches.
Assessment:
1. Observe students as they perform the movements with the apparatus, looking for proper form and technique.
2. Use the stopwatch to time each group as they complete the set course, noting their speed and efficiency.
3. Ask students to reflect on their performance and identify areas for improvement.
Extension:
1. Have students create their own obstacle courses using the apparatus and challenge their classmates to complete them.
2. Incorporate different types of movements, such as crawling, hopping, and skipping, into the activities using the apparatus.
