Describe stratosphere?

The stratosphere is the second layer of Earth's atmosphere, located above the troposphere and below the mesosphere. It extends from about 10 to 50 kilometers (6 to 31 miles) above the Earth's surface. The stratosphere is characterized by the presence of the ozone layer, which absorbs and scatters the majority of the sun's harmful ultraviolet radiation. This layer of ozone helps to protect life on Earth from the damaging effects of UV radiation. The stratosphere is also where commercial jet aircraft typically fly, as it is a stable and relatively calm region of the atmosphere. Temperatures in the stratosphere generally increase with altitude due to the absorption of solar radiation by the ozone layer.
