Agroecological Zones in Kenya
Kenya is divided into eight agroecological zones (AEZs) based on climate, soil, and vegetation:
1. Upper Midland
2. Lower Midland
3. Highland
4. Upland
5. Midland
6. Semi-Arid
7. Arid
8. Coastal
Crops and Livestock Domesticated in Kenya
Crops:
- Cereals: Maize, wheat, rice, sorghum, millet
- Legumes: Beans, cowpeas, lentils, soybeans
- Fruits: Mangoes, bananas, oranges, pineapples, avocadoes
- Vegetables: Tomatoes, onions, carrots, cabbages, spinach
- Other: Coffee, tea, sugarcane, cotton
Livestock:
- Cattle: Zebu, Boran, Ayrshire
- Goats: Black Mbala, Galla
- Sheep: Red Maasai, Dorper
- Donkeys: Somali donkey
- Chickens: Improved breeds (e.g., Kenbro, Kienyeji)
- Other: Pigs, rabbits, camels
