The Mahdi resistance occurred in Sudan. The Mahdist movement, led by Muhammad Ahmad, rose up against the Egyptian and British colonial forces in the late 19th century. The Mahdi and his followers fought against the foreign occupiers and established a short-lived Islamic state in Sudan before being defeated by British forces in 1898.
